Your home needs and energy audit before summer

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

Summer is on it’s way to the Valley of the Sun.  This week we are already up to 95 degrees in some parts of the Phoenix Metro area.  We measured an attic temperature over 115 degrees two days ago… and that was in Prescott!  Things are shaping up to be another scorcher.  You don’t want to suffer through another summer with bedrooms that you can’t keep cool, rising energy bills and the constant need to dust.

Strange as it may sound, saving energy and removing dust from your house are closely related.  You also may be surprised to find out that you shouldn’t need to turn the thermostat down and use more air conditioning to cool that pesky bedroom that will just never get cool.  Much of this has to do with leaking air ducts and the pressure created when the fan kicks on.  If you have return side ducts that are leaking, you are literally pulling hot unfiltered dusty air from the attic to send throughout the house.  Sealing up your duct work is an important piece of making your home more efficient, healthy and clean.
